Thank you for covering Baghdad with 24-7 prayer this Ramadan! We’re excited to see God’s Kingdom grow in this city.
Bab Il-Sharqi
Bab Il-Sharqi means “Eastern Gate or Door” but it is located in the southern area of old Baghdad. Baghdad originally had four gates and this one, which dates back to the Ottoman era, was turned into a church and then later demolished in the 1930’s. The area is a Shia neighborhood that saw some of the most intense sectarian fighting during Operation Iraqi Freedom. It continued to be plagued by routine attacks as late as 2016. The area surrounding Bab Al-Sharqi market is a stronghold of the Mahdi Army, the main Shia militia in central Iraq.
Pray for: On what is likely the Night of Power tonight, pray that the doors would be open for people to encounter Christ and not demonic influences. Pray that Christ becomes their cornerstone and people will not trust in a religion where there is no guarantee of salvation.

Characteristic of God: Christ the Cornerstone
“Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.” Ephesians 2:19-22
