Thank you for covering Baghdad with 24-7 prayer this Ramadan! We’re excited to see God’s Kingdom grow in this city.
Sadr City
Sadr City is the most densely populated area of Baghdad and is essentially 100% Shia. This area was built in 1959 by the prime minister at the time due to a housing shortage and many were migrating into the city from rural communities. At that time, it was named Revolution City, Al-Thawra, and provided housing for Baghdad’s urban poor. The neighborhood’s name changed from Revolution City to Saddam City to now Sadr City after the late leader passed away and is named after the father of one of the current main Shia Cleric and militia leaders in Baghdad. Al-Sadr has a strong following and is said to be as powerful as Iraq’s leaders although he has retired from politics. Sadr City has a sordid past with high crime and poverty rates. Very few foreigners have been able to enter this neighborhood due to safety concerns.
Pray for: Against corruption in the government and that people would know who their true Father and leader is. Pray also that this city would be a source of revival and not revolution.

Characteristic of God: Abba Father
“Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, ‘Abba, Father’. So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.” Galatians 4:6-7
