Pray for Baghdad

On January 4, 2024 a drone attack near Palestine Street killed prominent Shia leader causing condemnation from the Iraqi government and protests against the US. Palestine Street is famous for its connection to the eastern neighborhoods of Baghdad and it is the leading shopping center east of the Tigris. 

Tehrir Square – or “Liberation Square” – is the largest square in the city. In the center of it is a large bronze monument celebrating the establishment of the Republic of Iraq in 1968. In more recent history, it is most famous for the location of the October 2019 protests against the government for corruption, low wages and poor electricity. Over 600 protestors were killed in Baghdad and the south during the months that followed and every year on 1 October there are protests and commemorations of those who died. Tehrir is where demonstrations are most likely to happen when they are organized ahead of time.

Pray for:  Baghdadis to know Jesus as the Way and Liberator from sins. Pray for revival would break out in the city and instead of protests at Tahrir Square/Liberation, there would be worship to the one true King!
