Pray for Baghdad

May the fullness of the Kingdom be known in this city!

Prayer Fuel

Day 20 - March 29, 2024 (Good Friday)

Thank you for covering Baghdad with 24-7 prayer this Ramadan! We’re excited to see God’s Kingdom grow in this city.

Karada

Karada is an upper-class district and was historically one of the most religiously diverse areas of the city with a mixed population of Muslims and Christians. It is also said to be one of the oldest and most original neighborhoods in Baghdad. There are many churches located in this area that hosted congregations of Chaldeans, Assyrians, Melkite Greeks, and Armenian Catholics. However, a majority of the Christians fled from Karada following the US invasion in 2003, resulting now in a Shiite majority. Many businesses in this district are used as a cover by Shiite militia. The district of Karrada has had multiple terrorist attacks over the years, which occurred in part due to the presence of its large Shia and Christian population and wealth. It currently is a place known for culture, arts and hosts groups of young adults who gather to brainstorm improving their country and its image.

Pray that Christ would be known as the Redeemer in this neighborhood. He is the one who can turn all things to good and for glory to His name. Despite the persecution against the Christians in this neighborhood, may they continue to be a light and introduce their neighbors to the Savior.
