Thank you for covering Baghdad with 24-7 prayer this Ramadan! We’re excited to see God’s Kingdom grow in this city.
Adhamiye
The almost 100% Sunni neighborhood of Adhimiye is directly across the Tigris from the almost 100% Shiite neighborhood of Kadthmiye (Day 2). The Adhamiye bridge connects the two neighborhoods and According to one source, “in September 2005, the residents of Adhamiyah were credited with saving hundreds of Shi’ite lives. Shi’ite pilgrims, who were caught in a stampede on Al-Aimmah bridge while coming from the opposing shore of Kadthmiye began jumping from the bridge in an attempt to escape the crush, only to face drowning in the Tigris River below. Adhamiyah residents dove into the waters, pulling hundreds of their enemy Shi’ites to the shore, where their fellow residents transported them to hospitals and mosques. In some cases, residents used mattresses from their own beds as makeshift stretchers.” What a story of kindness and redemption!
Pray for: Reconciliation between people and between God and man. Pray for healing of relationships and for hope that the mending of what may seem impossible, would be made possible. May the people of Baghdad know the Healer who not only heals our physical needs, but also hearts and relationships!
