Thank you for covering Baghdad with 24-7 prayer this Ramadan! We’re excited to see God’s Kingdom grow in this city.
Al-Wazireya & Utafiyeh
Al-Wazireya is a neighborhood in the Adhamiyah District of Baghdad to the east of the Tigris. Utafiyeh is the neighborhood that is on the opposite side of the Tigris from Al-Wazireya.
Lydia* has been attending a women’s group for several years. She and her family endured many hardships in their lives—they fled to neighboring countries and became refugees during Saddam’s rule, she lost her home and marriage due to her husband’s addiction to gambling—and she raises multiple young children on her own. She and other Shia Muslim ladies enjoy listening to a local pastor’s wife, who tells them stories and life lessons interspersed with some spiritual principles. When a female expat worker first met Lydia during Ramadan, she was fasting and identified herself as a Muslim. She told her expat friend many times that she loves Jesus and enjoys learning the stories from the Bible. Lydia is seeking the Lord while still practicing all Shia religious rituals and observing their religious holidays. She is from a very conservative Shia family and can only hide her love of Jesus in her heart while living as a Shia Muslim in daily life.
Pray for: Would you please join us in prayers for Lydia and many women in Baghdad who are like her—who went through many hardships in their lives and are open to learn the Truth? We pray our Lord will heal their wounds, comfort them with eternal peace, and through knowing the truth will come to have eternal life and hope.
